“Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing that we’ll ever do.” – Brene Brown
Each time I read this quote by world renowned author and researcher, Brene Brown, I am reminded of the importance of the family recovery process. It can be more than overwhelming to step out on faith and engage in the journey of healing with addiction in our families. It begins with a decision. We decide that we are worthy of healing. We are worthy of self-care. We are worthy of community among ourselves. This decision is what has the power to catapult us into a life of freedom and abundance.
When we created the Family Department to support their recovery process I had no idea how that would affect me. I have watched parents, siblings, spouses, adult children and grandparents begin life anew. To say that I am honored to be a part of their lives is more than an understatement. From those first few emotional phone calls to the success stories that evolve, each stone that is overturned provides growth and grace. They are all miracles in my book.
But so many times we as family members fall victim to the delusion that we can go at this business alone. Even if that were the case, it begs the simple yet vital question, whose feet will you wash? Without a spirit of service in the healing journey we will never fully recover. Just as it is paramount for the alcoholics and addicts that we love to help others suffering from the disease of addiction it is equally as important for us in family recovery to reach out and be a lifeline to the families still suffering. I can tell you with absolute certainty that giving hope to a parent or spouse still entrenched with their loved one’s addiction will change your world forever.
With that thought the BRC Recovery and Spearhead Lodge Family Meeting was born! We need a place to gather together in fellowship and support the vision of spiritual health and happiness. We need a group of people who understand without explanation exactly where we have been and more importantly where we are headed. We need access to the hope of healing on a level we had not yet experienced. Through much prayer and consideration, the time has come.
We are beyond humbled to announce that the first monthly BRC Recovery and Spearhead Lodge Family Meeting will be held on Saturday, November 11th, 2017. We will meet on the Spearhead Lodge campus at 10:30 am for fellowship, muffins and coffee! The speaker will begin at 11:00 am to share a story of hope, vulnerability and courage. All BRC Recovery and Spearhead Lodge families are welcome!
