Issues Faced by Men
Spearhead Lodge offers addiction treatment specifically catered to the unique needs of men. Men are more likely than women to misuse almost any type of illicit drug, and their substance use is more likely to result in overdose or the need for medical intervention. For most age groups, men are more likely than women to misuse drugs and alcohol.
Additionally, men are far less likely to seek treatment for mental health concerns. When a condition such as depression exists along with a substance use disorder, this is referred to as dual diagnosis or a co-occurring disorder. Spearhead Lodge specializes in the simultaneous treatment of addiction and co-occurring disorders, including but not limited to depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD, and schizophrenia.
Why Gender Specific?
Studies have repeatedly shown that gender specific environments are more effective for those in early recovery. At Spearhead Lodge, we seek to limit the distractions of our residents by providing a gender specific environment.
Men in our recovery program support one another, not only through meetings and groups, but in the communal environment of Spearhead Lodge. It is our aim that our residents develop a lasting understanding of fellowship and brotherhood in recovery.
Men in Recovery
Our program emphasizes safety and vulnerability in early recovery. Young men face very specific issues in treatment which often go unaddressed. We bring up these issues of what it means to be man in recovery early in the process.
The gender specific environment allows for the men to be vulnerable with their peers, which is nearly impossible in a co-ed environment. Additionally, the community-driven aspect of the program allows the men to form a community and learn to rely on one another.
