Weekly Focal Point: Mindfulness
“Each morning we are born again. What we do today is what matters most.”

Spiritual Practices & Development Series: Mindfulness
The family dynamic centered around addiction is often one based in reactions and driven by fear. In recovery we learn to set our intent when it comes to boundaries and protecting our values within the family system. Becoming mindful on a daily basis plays a vital role in the recreation of our lives. We can practice setting our intention for the day, staying in contact with our Higher Power, being present in each moment and forgiving ourselves when we do not do this perfectly! When we focus on the journey rather than the destination we free ourselves up to experience each new day and learn how to live our lives on a new basis.
3 C’s of Al-Anon
- We didn’t CAUSE it
- We can’t CONTROL it
- We can’t CURE it
AND WE WON’T CONTRIBUTE TO IT TODAY
Considerations to Practice This Week
- Start each day with a short meditation on our intentions for that day only. Bring God into each moment as go forward for that 24 hours.
- Be clear about our boundaries and practice communicating them effectively to others.
- Treat each day with focus on the moment rather than regret of the past or fear of the future. Stay present!
- Do not let ourselves be discouraged by our mistakes. We celebrate progress rather than perfection in recovery today.
