HONESTY
Today’s Reminder: Honesty
“Willingness, honesty and open mindedness are the essentials of recovery. But these are indispensable.”

Honesty…
Before I can be honest with the people around me I must first question if I am being honest with myself. So often when dealing with family addiction we tend to put on a show for those around us taking on the persona of various stage characters. All of this dishonesty in an effort to be accepted and feel a sense of normalcy. The inconsistency in our hearts creates constant tension about us wanting to enjoy a certain reputation but knowing in our hearts that our performance is a lie. Fear is the driving force of this modality and when we accept help from a Higher Power we finally see that we cannot and do not have to do this alone. This humility spells the necessary freedom for us to live an honest and authentic life. We then find the courage to be transparent in all of our affairs.
3 C’s of Al-Anon
- We didn’t CAUSE it
- We can’t CONTROL it
- We can’t CURE it
AND WE WON’T CONTRIBUTE TO IT TODAY
Questions to Consider This Week
- What areas can I identify that I have played a stage character in an attempt to gain the approval of those around me?
- What is one way today that I can practice honesty and transparency with those I feel safe with in my life?
