OUR PHILOSOPHIES
Weekly Focal Point: Our Philosophies
“Most philosophical questions are to be solved by getting rid of them.”
~ Alan Watts The Book ~
Philosophical Convictions Galore
At one point or another in our lives, we have tried to live by philosophies and convictions that proved to be unsuccessful. We lacked the daily discipline required to create a life of abundance. Our attempts to relieve the terror of alcoholism through our morals and philosophical beliefs left us in a dilemma. Looking back, we can see how the philosophies we had during active alcoholism, and maybe even at times throughout sobriety, couldn’t serve us long term. The Big Book tells us that we needed something much greater than ourselves to be free from the drink and the bondage of self. We must believe in a Power greater than ourselves if we are to be free from selfishness, self-centeredness, and allow that Power to bring us into the awareness that people like us so desperately need in order to get sober and stay sober.
Questions for Our Consideration
- When I am having troubles in my life, do I find my self trying to find an easier softer way to dealing with them? Or am I using my tools in order to bring the truth to the light?
- How have I seen my philosophies play out in my life? Have I stuck to them?
- Do I find that my philosophies about life match a life of principles?
