Today
Weekly Focal Point
“I will make this day a happy one, for I alone can determine what kind of day it will be.”
One Day At A Time Series
Who knows whether tomorrow will be good or not. Yet we who live with alcoholics are so prone to expect the worst! Al-Anon is a twenty-four hour program. This gives us comforting assurance that we need not burden ourselves with the woes of the past, nor anticipate those that may come in the future. I will always keep in mind that today is my sole concern, and that I will make it as good of a day as I can. This one small span of time is mine, and I will use it to do the things that need doing, and have a little time over for enjoyment and reflection.
3 C’s of Al-Anon
- We didn’t CAUSE it
- We can’t CONTROL it
- We can’t CURE it
AND WE WON’T CONTRIBUTE TO IT TODAY
Considerations for Us
- What areas can I identify that keep me distracted from being present in each day? Am I willing to submit those in prayer to my Higher Power in order to practice enjoying each day as it comes?
- Decide each morning when you awaken that today is going to be a good day regardless of the circumstances. Practice that decision by consistently turning over your problems as they arise rather than allowing yourself to be pulled out of your day worrying about the outcomes. That is God’s job and isn’t He much better equipped for that than we are? Make today a great one!
