THE 10TH STEP
Weekly Focal Point
“It’s not what you look at that matters, it’s what you see.”
~ Henry David Thoreau ~
The 10th Step
Though we have already taken an inventory of our stock in Step 4 and shared it with a trusted peer in Step 5, in the 10th Step we continue to take personal inventory, acknowledging when we are selfish, resentful, fearful, or dishonest. In part of having an experience with the steps, we have become awake to how we show up on a day-to-day basis. Though life has gotten better for us, not every day will be perfect, so it is important that we look for our shortcomings and our reactions to life as it comes at us. In a moment where we feel wronged and have become resentful, we must first go to God and ask that He relieve me of resentment. Next we will want to discuss the matter with someone and become open for feedback, hoping that we will see our part in the situation. Afterwards, we clean up our side of the street if necessary and turn our thoughts and attention towards someone who we can help. Once we have completed this process we often find that we have become relieved of the resentment which ignited a reaction from within us.
Questions for Our Consideration
- Have I paused and asked my Higher Power for direction?
- Am I willing to listen to the feedback my peers provide me with?
- Am I awake to how I show up and contribute to life daily?
